Joshua 1:8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
At every phase of Israel’s progress toward the Promised Land the nation was required to listen to the Mosaic Law and commanded that obedience was essential. The priests were the keepers of the Law and instructed to frequently remind the nation of God’s commands. It has always been the written Word that has directed mankind’s obedience to God. It is a tragic reality that Christianity has drifted away from a personal passion for Biblical literacy and understanding – many have left the dispensing of God’s commands in the hands of the pastor. There is no way to properly understand what God has promised or commanded without personal study and devotion to the written Word. It is not possible to meditate upon the absolute truth of God’s Word until knowledge of its contents is carefully studied. All of life must be measured by what our Lord has declared in His word. We are so incredibly blessed with our access to the written Word – it is only reasonable that we will be held accountable to mediate upon the vast reservoir of knowledge, understanding and wisdom found in this wondrous Book. Many fail to experience the contentment and joy our Lord has offered due to a lack of knowledge. God’s Word does not simply reveal the acts of God’s for our comfort – it reveals the ways of God that we might come to understand the intimate relation He has offered through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
