John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
John is not only referring to the cessation of mortal existence - salvation is the end of earthly ambitions and our allegiance to the sin nature to give ourselves to the pursuit of our eternal promise. Without Christ man lives but he is dead to God – Paul said, “For me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” Even non-believers have a desire to exchange this mortal for immortality constantly searching for ways to hold back the hands of time. It is only the true believer that understands it has nothing to do with the preservation of the mortal and everything with embracing the spiritual. The believer abides with the desire to depart from this mortal existence and lives with passion to experience the eternal promise. The proof of our faith in His promise exists in our humble obedience to His Spirit. The greatest measure of this life is found in our undivided devotion to God and His Word. As our body withers toward death our spirit is renewed by the glory of His presence, as we humbly prepare ourselves for the privilege of meeting our Lord and Savior face to face. We must never allow our desire to preserve and enjoy this life to exceed our willingness and motive to please God. This life is but a temporary journey to provide opportunity to love, worship and obey Jesus Christ by His Holy Spirit.
