1Corinthans 1:30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—
Sanctification is to discover what God has imparted to us through Jesus Christ – our choice is to manifest that which God has placed in us – our will must respond to the conviction of His word and the Holy Spirit if we ever hope to emulate our Lord. Jesus Christ’s righteousness is imparted to me that I might be reconciled with my holy God. The Father is no longer separated from me due to my sins – they are forgiven and my sin-nature is covered by the precious blood of my Savior – when God looks upon me He sees the imputed righteousness of my Savior. Without this gracious access the work of holiness could not take place. My reconciliation brings the Holy Spirit into my life to work God’s eternal purpose. Sanctification does not come from me, it is allowing the fullness of Christ to possess me. Many try desperately to imitate Jesus Christ when it is truly God’s will to reveal Christ through me. God is not trying to refine what I am, but to transform who I am. Holiness does not come from the nature of man nor are we asked to simply imitate the nature of Christ. We are called to allow the Holy Spirit to manifest the fullness of Jesus through us and in us.
