Psalms 23:6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
Once we have humbly accepted our Lord’s gift we become the unmerited recipients of His personal goodness and unfailing love. All that occurs in the believer’s life is the result of our Lord’s goodness and love – the trials and the blessings. His unfailing love has pursued me even when I carelessly took it for granted – guiding, encouraging and correcting me back into the intimacy He desires. God’s love is not limited to those who believe – Christ died upon the cross because of His love. When we accept His forgiveness the love we experience in God moves from curiosity and apprehension to humble wonder and adoration. It is our Lord’s relentless love that brings us to the cross – we will never understand the fullness of that love until we acknowledge our unworthiness and inability to earn or possess it. The more we understand the grace and mercy of God the more we are able to grasp His eternal love. It is His love for me that provides the motivation to dwell in His presence and obey His commands. Reverent fear is an important ingredient to maintain my devotion because it eliminates compromise and personal ambition – it guides me in my desire to return that Love to Him in a manner that pleases Him.
