John 16:31 ¶ Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished.
Jerusalem represented the fulfillment of Christ’s earthly ministry. Jesus Christ was bound by obedience to fulfill what God had predestined and compelled by His love for us to accept the heart wrenching cruelty he was about to face. The prophets did not provide a scenario for Christ to willingly follow, they recorded the foreknowledge and predestined purpose of the Father that Jesus Christ would give Himself to in humble obedience. Christ clearly understood that through the sovereign majesty of the Father; all prophecy ‘will’ be accomplished. Those predestined to fulfill God’s will had no idea concerning the eternal implications of what they were about to do. It behooves us to keep our eyes upon our eternal hope as we traverse this mortal path. Our hope will be fulfilled if we remain faithful in humble obedience to what our Lord has commanded. We do not look to this life to secure of establish what has been written; we immerse ourselves in His Word to challenge our doubts and transform our motives. In Christ’s prophecies, there is clear declaration of what He would suffer and what He would accomplish. The Bible will assure us with the same confidence, for all who give themselves to meditative devotion and trust in the Word of God.
