Anti-Christian hooliganism in Jerusalem « News that matters

The well-known “Baptist House” church in central Jerusalem was vandalized overnight.

Vandalism on the walls of a Baptist Church in Jerusalem.

This in a scene that is becoming all too familiar to its congregants.

The perpetrators scrawled anti-Christian slogans on the side of the Baptist House, including: “Death to Christianity”, “Jesus was a son of a whore”, and “We will crucify you”.

Three cars parked at the compound had their tires slashed.

The graffiti also included the phrase “price tag”, leading police to suspect the involvement of radical right-wing elements that have taken to striking out at churches and mosques in response to the Israeli government’s uprooting of Jewish communities in compliance with Arab demands.

“Officers are investigating a strong possibility of a nationalist motive, but no one has been apprehended yet,” said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

Israel’s mainstream nationalist camp has repeatedly denounced the actions of the apparently de-centralized “price tag” gangs.

But the Baptist House has been a target since long before the start of the“price tag” movement. Situated near some of Jerusalem’s most Orthodox neighborhoods, the Baptist House has suffered numerous acts of petty vandalism, and the main sanctuary was set ablaze in 2007.

Looking at the broader picture, some have suggested that the general increase in hostility toward Christians and Messianic Jews in recent years is actually a good sign. As the message of the Gospel reaches more Israelis, increased resistance should be expected.

My comment:

Two things must be said:

1. There is anti-Christian elements within the Jewish people. Many Messianic Jews are badly persecuted by their not saved Orthodox brothers.

2. The anti-Christian sentiments in Israel comes from a small minority of the Jewish sociality. Most of secular Jews have high regards for evangelical Christian friends of Israel.

It is important that the Jews were not gathered home to Zion because of their righteousness. Through the prophet Ezekiel God of the Bible tells the Jews to be ashamed of their conducts in the diaspora.

Some of the shameful anti-Christian acts have been continued by some also after the homecoming.

Ezekiel 36:31-33
Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, people of Israel!

The Jews are not different from other sinners, who are in need of salvation. The only salvation comes from Jesus the Messiah.

Those who put the persecution of Messianic believers in Israel under the carpet, are not spirit filled born again believers. Many of them have made Israel and idol, and promote different forms of New Judaism.

They are equally in error as those “Christians” who attack Israel, and deny the eternal promises about the Jewish homeland.
