Kelly Hoggan, the head of security for the Transportation Security Administration, has been fired over the long lines that have plagued security checkpoints at airports around the nation.

Hoggan’s deputy, Darby LaJoye, was named as his interim replacement, Reuters reported, citing an internal TSA memo.

Lines at the U.S. airports have caused thousands of missed flights in recent months. And as WND previously reported, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has issued a warning to travelers to expect more of the same this summer.

Meanwhile, a TSA watchdog said the long lines are due to bureaucratic mismanaging of resources. As Chris Edwards, director of tax policy studies at Cato Institute just told WND: “Annual surveys of federal government employees find that the TSA and the broader Homeland Security Department have some of the poorest morale in the federal government. The TSA has a high turnover rate for their screeners, which is not good for morale and is not good for security.”

TSA, in fact, blamed the long lines at ports on the low security screener-to-passenger ratio and has promised to bolster that work force in the coming weeks, at least at the nation’s busiest airlines.

Hoggan was just under heavy congressional scrutiny for receiving $90,000 in bonuses in a 13-month period between 2013 and 2014, despite the long lines and missed flights.
