The IRS chief who ‘absolutely lied’ to Congress didn’t show up for hearings, one lawmaker knows why | BizPac Review
Want more hot BPR News stories? Sign up for our morning blast HERE A GOP congressman had no reservations about the dishonesty of the Internal Revenue Chief John Koskinen.
Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis said Koskinen “absolutely” lied amid allegations that he misled Congress about the political targeting of Tea Party groups by the agency, Fox News reported.
The effort to impeach the Cabinet member is historic as it has not happened in Washington in over 140 years, according to Fox.
DeSantis blasted Koskinen’s conduct, saying if past Cabinet level officers “were to commit the kind of misconduct that Koskinen committed, they probably just would have resigned.”
“If the IRS audited a taxpayer and the taxpayer responded to that audit by destroying documents that had been summoned by the IRS,” DeSantis said, “There’s not a taxpayer in this country that would be able to get away with that.”
Koskinen will not be attending the impeachment hearings and DeSantis said he is not at all surprised.
“I think it would be very difficult for him to explain his conduct,” he said, “and so I am not surprised at all that he is not availing himself to testify today.”
