A veterans group is calling on Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to resign for claiming President Obama has a "special right" to release classified information about the operation that took out Osama bin Laden. As OneNewsNow has reported, the government documents Judicial Watch obtained through the Freedom of Information Act reveal that the secretary of defense gave to the producer and screen writer of Zero Dark Thirty special access to sensitive information related to the bin Laden. The film, now scheduled for release in December, is expected to show President Obama's role in the operation in glowing terms.
Col. Dick Brauer, Jr. (USAF-Ret.), a co-founder of Special Operations Speaks(SOS), says the Obama administration should not be releasing classified information for political purposes.
"We are concerned largely with the amount and the details, the types of classified information that's being intentionally leaked by the administration for political gain," he states.
And Brauer is outraged that Panetta is threatening to punish former Navy SEAL Mark Owen for revealing details on the bin Laden raid in his book No Easy Day.
"That's hypocrisy," the colonel asserts. "They're giving the same type of information to Obama's friends in Hollywood to make a movie to make him look good. That's hypocrisy."
Since Panetta decided to give away secrets and endanger America's national security, Brauer concludes it is time for him to go.
