Back to School: A Time to Pray
I graduated from high school before the first See You at the Pole event was ever held. I do not remember a single time gathering with students at my high school to pray for fellow classmates. What a missed opportunity!
On September 26 a smaller number of American students will gather at their school flag pole to pray during this Global Day of Student Prayer. In recent years churches, youth ministers and Christian radio stations have reduced their support for this day of prayer. The last two years I observed school campuses where not a single student prayed that morning at the flag pole.
There is still more than 5 weeks to plan for this year's event. Promotional ideas include having students promote See You at the Pole at school Bible studies and on Facebook.
Besides promoting See You at the Pole, here's another idea for parents, youth ministers and concerned students: Develop a personal prayer list and pray regularly for everyone on this list. For example, a school yearbook or Facebook friends list could serve as a prayer list.
If students will commit to praying for everyone at their school, we shouldn't be surprised if God does some amazing things during this school year.
