The president of Tanzania is condemning attacks against Christians in that East African nation.

International Christian Concern has been in touch with victims of the latest attack, and spokesman Jonathan Racho discusses the conflict.

"Zanzibar is an autonomous region in Tanzania where Moslems are the majority, and on the island of Zanzibar there was an attack on Christians," he tells OneNewsNow. "Christians are now telling us that they want justice. They want the perpetrators to be brought before a court of law."

The country is going through a constitutional review process, and President Jakaya Kikwete has said publicly that violence is not an acceptable way to express a viewpoint.

"This is not the first time that churches have been attacked in Zanzibar," Racho explains. "In the past, Moslems have destroyed 25 churches, but nothing has happened, and because of this the attackers are growing more and more bold."

In the latest attack there were no deaths or injuries. Three churches were attacked, and the car of one pastor was burned.
