At the same time, we must face reality and that is that there are no goods guys except the Kurds in this whole situation. The Sunnis are committing terrible atrocities as ISIS attacks village after village and the Shias are pawns for Iran. Iran is an evil empire which is the leading sponsor of terrorism in the world.
So how do we put troops into Iraq without choosing sides? Who are these 300 advisors advising?
It is nonsense for the administration to say that they are just there to collect Intel. The government of Al-Maliki has to allow these troops into the country and then he has to support them and protect them. So that means that we have taken sides and are supporting the corrupt government of Nouri Al-Maliki. Now we are on the verge of doing something with long term consequences. We will wind up conducting airstrikes against the Sunnis which will rile Sunnis all over the region and increase their anger toward the US. Acting as the Air Force for Iran against their Sunni enemies is not in our best interest.
Yes, ISIS is a Sunni terror group and they are a threat to the US in the long run but so are the Shia forces of Al-Maliki and their sponsors in Iran. So there are no good options except to help the Kurds.
That is why we should stay out of this civil war before we get more Americans killed for people who want to kill us because they consider us infidels.
The notion that these people want democracy is just not a reasonable proposition. They do not. They want a theocracy headed by Mullahs until they find out what Shariah really is about and then they want someone to come an save them. I say let them fight it out. Help our allies the kurds and let the Sunnis and Shias fight until they are either tired of it or until one side is so decimated that they quit fighting. Either way, American forces do not need to be part of this fight.
