There are countless reasons for American conservatives to fight against this nation’s moral decay. For former Gov. Mike Huckabee, however, one motivation rises above all others.
“I know there’s a God,” he said during his remarks at the Conservative Political Action Convention (CPAC) Friday morning. The Western Center for Journalism is covering the three-day gathering of conservative leaders and reports Huckabee’s plan to return America to its founding trajectory.
“I know this nation would not exist if He had not been the midwife of its birth,” he said. “If this nation forgets its God, God will have every right to forget us.”
An ordained Southern Baptist Minister, Huckabee asserted that there is “no other way to explain our history than by His hand of providence.”
While he acknowledged it is “not politically correct” to hold such opinions, he also asserted that among most Americans, “deep down we know it to be true.”
Not only does the nation’s immorality dishonor God, Huckabee said; our weak, corrupt leadership negatively impacts our standing in the world.
There is “not one country anywhere with whom we have a better relationship than we did before” Obama’s election, he said.
Scandals have rocked the nation under this regime, punctuated by the tragic attack in Benghazi and the subsequent reaction by America’s leaders.
“With all due respect to Hillary Clinton,” Huckabee said, “it does make a difference who died and why the did it.”
Domestically, leftist leadership is equally as destructive.
“I know that mothers and fathers raise better children than government ever will,” he said, complaining that bureaucrats are now “picking everything from their menu to where they go to school.”
Furthermore, he said, an increasingly unaccountable and convoluted tax system is holding Americans captive. He expressed his support of a Fair Tax program to “get the IRS off of our backs.”
The legalization and proliferation of abortion is only serving to further the nation’s moral decline and culture of death.
“A society that sacrifices its own children,” he said, “is no better than the ancient Philistines.”
Finally, Huckabee concluded that America must renew its dedication to our armed forces. Unfortunately, the current administration seems to be actively working against that ideal.
“This nation,” he said, “must make sure that the first fruits of its treasury goes to those who have served in uniform.”
