A Bomb of Another Kind
The littered remains of the tragedy in Boston on Monday. The sad reminder of the reality of the world in which we live today. And, as the nation grieves, we ask our selves these questions, what can be done? What will it take to assure our safety? And, the answer to that question, like it or not, is nothing. There is nothing we can do to assure ourselves that a scene similar to the one above will not take place in our own cities or neighborhoods.
We abhor the violence that strikes without warning, and rightly, so. It keeps us off kilter, always looking over our shoulders, wondering, when and where, the next mass shooting, the next bombing, might be. We wonder, what places and events are secure enough for taking our families to. And, of course, there is no way of answering these questions as each event is as unpredictable as the mind of the one who plans and carries out events such as these.
But, if we are honest with our selves, we would realize that we, ourselves have created the fertile ground in which these individuals thrive. As the Bible says,“a good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.” In other words, there is a reason why a society produces individuals such as these. Fifty years ago, it wasn’t so. Why? What has changed? Well, a lot. Yet no one wants to think that the way they live their own personal life has any bearing on these tragedies. And, it is that unwillingness, more than anything else that ensures the likelihood and probability of further events.
For the abortions, the divorces, the sexual and drug addictions, and, the removal of God from our public and private lives in the last fifty years have been as powerfully at work in fragmenting people and families as any physical bomb could ever be. And, it’s this bomb, abomb of another kind, that has lit a fuse of anger among many individuals. The repercussions of which, we feel today.
And, unless we recognize this fact, repent and get our lives in order before God. We cannot and will not see a change for the better. In fact, it’s going to get worse.
May God open our eyes to the truth.
