Israeli authorities on Wednesday closed Jerusalem’s Temple Mount following a tense encounter between Muslim worshipers and Jewish visitors.
A group of Jewish visitors to the site considered holy to both religions were confronted by Muslim women, who shouted at them.
Police dispersed the women, and shortly thereafter dispersed an even larger crowd of Muslim worshipers that gathered.
No physical violence was reported, but police closed the Temple Mount to visitors for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure.
