Obamas goal: Criminalize biblical view of marriage

Attorney: Obama’s goal is to criminalize biblical view of marriage

A legal expert suggests if the White House gets its way and a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act is struck down, it will be a heavy-handed slap in the face for Christians.
On Friday, the Obama administration filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the high court to strike down Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. That section, which the White House considers to be unconstitutional, prevents the federal government from recognizing same-sex “marriages” in matters such as health benefits, Social Security survivors’ benefits, and income taxes.
In part, the brief states: “Gay and lesbian people are a minority group with limited political power. Although some of the harshest and most overt forms of discrimination against gay and lesbian people have receded, that progress has hardly been uniform (either temporarily or geographically), and has in significant respects been the result of judicial enforcement of the Constitution, not political action.”
Matt Barber, vice president of Liberty Counsel Action, believes the Obama administration's action is wrong on two counts.
“Not only did the president abdicate his duty to defend a law that was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, this president has taken it a step further and he is now engaging in radical homosexual activism,” states the Christian attorney.
Barber contends that Obama has become emboldened after being re-elected and "the mask is off." And he predicts if DOMA is repealed, the floodgates will be opened against Christianity.
“If people are given special, suspect minority status based on aberrant sexual feelings and behaviors, then the Christian view that says homosexual behavior is both self-destructive and immoral ... essentially becomes criminalized,” he warns.
That has been the experience in Canada and the United Kingdom, where people have been penalized for preaching, teaching, and speaking out that homosexuality is sin. Barber says that "essentially pits the government directly against the free exercise of religion and Christian sexual morality."

The Supreme Court hears the case March 26.
In 2011, President Obama proclaimed the executive branch would no longer defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in September 1996 after passing both houses of Congress by overwhelming majorities.
