''If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.'' - President Barack Obama (July 13, 2012)
That’s good news for entrepreneurs who fail, like Solyndra.  Now they can blame the government rather than themselves.  It wasn’t Solyndra’s bad investments, or Wall Street’s; it was the governments fault.  The feds should’ve provided more guidance, and more money.  Maybe General Motors and Wall Street can now blame Obama for their failures; but of course, then Obama would just blame George Bush.
President Obama, in his speech July 13, 2012 in Roanoke, Virginia at a rally of “supporters,” he indicated that the government’s “infrastructure” should get credit for successful businesses.  I mean, how could we ship stuff we make without highways and bridges and ports?  How could we send invoices to collect for our services and products without the United States Post Office to deliver them?
The President, who apparently can’t find an undoctored birth certificate or his college transcripts, also had these words of wisdom:
“There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me because they want to give something back,” the president said. “If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.”
The Emperor goes on to say that businesses didn’t build the roads and bridges; the government did.  What?  Did he really say that?  Where did the “gov’ment” get the money to build the roads and bridges?  I always thought that businesses and the taxes from the employees they hire paid for all that.  Silly me!!
In 1974, after serving four years as a Hospital Corpsman (think medic) in the U.S. Navy and graduating from a major university in Zoology Pre-med, I applied to six different Medical Schools.  I had played a little bit during my freshman year in 1966… OK, a lot… and I was drafted.  The Navy “grew me up” as my mom, God rest her soul, used to say; and it did.  During my tenure as a student at North Carolina State University, I ended up with 4.0 (out of a possible 4.0) in my major.  Zoology wasn’t easy, and I wasn’t that smart.  I studied night and day while working at UPS every week night from 11:00 PM until 2:00 AM to help support my new family and pay tuition not covered by the GI Bill.  As a Corpsman (corpseman as our Harvard educated President pronounces) during the Vietnam conflict (it was never declared a war), the medical training was significant as one might imagine.  We were well-versed in pharmacology, life-preserving first aid and minor surgery.  With the grades from my post-Navy schooling approaching 4.0 overall and with the “extreme” training we received from our stint in the Navy, I felt I would be a shoe-in.  But alas, I didn’t know anything about “affirmative action.”
Introduced in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, affirmative action was first enforced by President Lyndon Johnson.
"This is the next and more profound stage of the battle for civil rights,"Johnson asserted. "We seek… not just equality as a right and a theory, but equality as a fact and as a result."
Poor Lyndon Baines didn’t understand the term “equality” apparently.
With this concept in mind, my counselor suggested I apply to Meharry Medical College in Tennessee, an “all black” medical school. I suppose the logic was, I would be the token white guy. Meharry was the first to turn me down, no government-sponsored “affirmative action” there for me, or any other white folk.  Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee is currently the largest private historically black institution in the United States solely dedicated to educating healthcare professionals and scientists.  White students can get in if they have a “history” of working with African American organizations.
When I interviewed with Bowman Gray Medical School at Wake Forest University, one of the interviewing doctors told me, “If you were a black guy, you would be in.  If you were a black girl, we would be recruiting you.  If you don’t get in, reapply next year.” The doctor also told me he would deny saying any of this if I told anyone.  I was young and naïve, didn’t know anything about Affirmative Action and never did “reapply.”
Mr. President, can I blame the government for my failed medical career?  After all, I certainly had no responsibility for playing my freshman year.  If the “government” hadn’t let all those girls in school, I might have studied more.  It wasn’t my fault!!!  There were lots of roads, bridges and tunnels at that time to help my new business opportunity.
But wait!  We can take the emperor’s philosophy a step further.  Businesses could not be successful without our moms birthing us?  I mean, how could we have a business if we weren’t born?  But there’s more.  Maybe we should thank our moms mom for birthing our mom… this line of thought could probably extend back to Eve, not sure how many bridges and roads were in the Garden of Eden.
Emperor Obama had even more to say on the business subject and how we couldn’t have done it without Uncle Sam, or is it now Uncle Samantha?  There has been a lot of change but little hope.
“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.” - President Obama
This is probably disheartening news for Papa John, who was a hard worker, Hobby Lobby, Sears and Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Sometimes I think our president might be just a little “Kentucky fried” himself, if you get my drift.
God had some things to say about entrepreneurship. Matthew 25: 14-30 discusses a business investment deal.  Three men were chosen, and two men invested wisely.  The third hid his money, not even earning interest.  He had to give his money to the investor who created the greatest return without Obama’s help.
Proverbs 22:29 says that a skilled worker will serve before kings, not middle-management.
Mr. President, you are correct that there are a lot of “hard workers” out there; but only a few are willing to roll the dice in the game of entrepreneurship, including yourself.  I have many friends who own their own business; and most of them did it on their own, using the roads, bridges and tunnels that they paid for with the taxes they provided to the government.  The government does not “make money,” they take it from we the people.
How did we get here?  How did we “progress” from a society of workers to a society of takers
The answer: Workers strive for success; takers steal from the successful workers.  Like Lenin, Stalin and Castro.
