Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
God’s promise is for those who view the inevitable end of this life with hope and anticipation. We have but one solution to the challenges of this life – the precious promise and provision of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. This world with all of its optimism and potential is of no consequence to the plan and purpose of God. Only our devotion to God and trust in His written Word will provide the contentment we all seek – all other choices will end in despair and darkness of the soul. Those who went before us saw this mortal existence as opportunity of preparation for the next. There is no despair for those who have died in faith because they know it is the last threshold that separates us from our glorious hope. Our faith should exceed those who have gone before us because we have been privileged to live within the delivered promise. All those who have gone before us and those who come after us share this same longing – we are strangers and pilgrims on this earth.
