Children’s Magazine Pressured to Include Depictions of Homosexual Families

Highlights for Children, which publishes magazines for children 12 and under, is being pressured to showcase homosexual families, according to Life Site News.
A girl identified as “Kristina” wrote to the magazine’s editors asking why they don’t depict families with homosexual partners regularly and positively throughout the magazine.
The editors wrote back, saying, “We understand your wish to see your family's situation represented in Highlights." They said it was “very important to us that every child see his or her ‘face’ in the pages of our magazine at some point.” They assured “Kristina” that they would “think deeply about inclusion.”
“Gay activists proceeded to condemn Highlights for Children, whose publications include Hello for ages 0-2, High Five for ages 2-6 and Highlights for ages 6-12. The publisher then backed off and issued an apology to Kristina and other LGBTQ protesters,” Life Site News stated in its article on Wednesday.
Highlights for Children issued an apology, saying their “initial response” was not “reflective of our values, intentions or our position.” They said they believed in the legitimacy of gay families, adding that “all families matter” and “there are many ways to build a family." Then they said they are committed to include homosexuals in future issues.
“If ‘we believe that parents know best' isn’t expressive of the values of the magazine’s editors, there’s only one place it can go," Life Site News quoted Rod Dreher of the American Conservative as saying. "And so, goodbye Highlights for Children, another innocent victim of the PC mob.”
Dreher called it “insane” that the magazine “gets bullied into this, and that the editors would capitulate so quickly.”
He predicted that in a year or so, “Highlights is going to face enormous pressure to, um, highlight transgendered tots.”
