Headline: Three Border Police Officers Wounded in West Bank Car-ramming Attack
Three Border Police officers were wounded in a car-ramming attack on Sunday in the Hebron area, north of the settlement of Kiryat Arba. Soldiers opened fire at the car, but the driver fled the scene. Hours later he turned himself in to the police claiming it was an accident. He was arrested and transferred to Shin Bet custody for interrogation. “When we arrived at the scene we saw three young people… they were laying near a traffic circle,” a MDA paramedic said, adding that the three were conscious. The three, two men and a woman in their 20s, were given preliminary medical care on the scene. One of the police officers suffered severe wounds to his head and limbs, and was was taken to Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem for further treatment. The other two, who were lightly wounded, were evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem.

Headline: Abbas orders military funerals for terrorists
A Palestinian stabbed and wounded a 70-year-old man in northern Israel before being shot by officers, police said Monday just hours after another Palestinian knifed several people, including an 80-year-old woman, in a stabbing spree near Tel Aviv, the latest attacks in more than a month of violence. The attacks came after Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian who they say tried to stab a soldier in the West Bank. A Palestinian stabbed and wounded a 70-year-old man, seriously wounding him as he walked down the street in the northern city of Netanya, police said Monday evening before he was shot and wounded by police. Earlier, Israeli police said a Palestinian stabbed an 80-year-old woman in the back on a street in Rishon Lezion near Tel Aviv Monday afternoon and then stabbed a man in the chest before continuing to run down the street and carrying out another attack. Police Spokeswoman Luba Samri said that after stabbing the first two people, the Palestinian, a 19-year-old from the West Bank city of Hebron, tried to enter a clothing shop but a woman in the store slammed a door on him. The Palestinian then went into a cosmetics store and stabbed another man. Bystanders managed to tackle and apprehend the attacker. Police then arrived on motorcycles and detained him. The Palestinian Authority has been holding official funeral parades in recent weeks in order to prevent militant groups like Hamas from using such ceremonies to whip up popular support, a senior Palestinian security official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the practice.

Headline: Hamas: The intifada has killed the Balfour Declaration
The Hamas paper has given new significance to the Israeli government’s concession Saturday, when it returned the bodies of five terrorists in breach of a Security Cabinet decision, and thereby let the Palestinian Authority (PA) hold a massive funeral for them in Hevron. Faiz Abu Shamalah wrote in the Hamas-run Palestine Paper, analyzing the meaning of the funeral that was attended by thousands, and which led to violent attacks on IDF soldiers. “The city of Hevron has become the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian nation expressing the will of the Palestinian nation, which spoke in its masses and with rage,” wrote Abu Shamalah. His comment indicates the strong support for Hamas in the city in Judea, a stronghold for the Islamist terrorist group and where local elections for seven spots in the municipal government reportedly saw all seven go to Hamas members. That “will” according to the Hamas writer was expressed in “a call against the Oslo Accords, against the continuation of the (PA) security cooperation (with Israel), against the initiative of (US Secretary of State) John Kerry and against every Palestinian working against the intifada.” “The city of Hevron announced aloud to the entire Palestinian nation that the goings-on on Palestinian land are an intifada in every sense of the word, in terms of the sacrifice and the self-sacrifice,” he continued. “The city of Hevron and with it all the Palestinian cities declared the Al-Quds intifada, and all the sharpened knives struck the Balfour Declaration and killed it even before attacking the view of security and stability that the Jews hope for on this land, and against them the city of Hevron went out in tens of thousands at the end of October, to declare in the voice of the blood: the Balfour Declaration that was published in early November a hundred years ago is a worthless declaration, and this land is Arab…and will not be a homeland for the Jews.”

Headline: Israel allegedly strikes missile base outside Damascus
Syrian media reported an Israeli air force attack Sunday, Nov. 1, after two sorties Friday night against Syrian army and Hizballah bases in the Qalamoun Mountains on the Lebanese border. The IDF declined to confirm or deny these reports. Syrian sources described a large number of Israeli airplanes as bombing a Hizballah unit based in the village of El Ain in northern Lebanon and the arms depot of the 155th Brigade of the Syrian army at Al-Katifa to the east. The two targets are 70 km apart. So these air strikes must have targeted two key points along the Iranian arms supply route to Hizballah. They also raise three important questions:
  1. Did Israel’s Tel Aviv command center use the hotline to Russian headquarters to give Moscow prior warning of air strikes against Syrian and Hizballah targets, explaining that no harm was intended to the Russian military in Syria? Hardly likely; the Russians would not be expected to tolerate Israeli bombardments so close to their own military enclave in Latakia province.
2.  Did Russian surveillance planes and stations detect the approach of Israel’s bombers and decide not to interfere? After all, Israel has turned a blind eye to repeated Russian air strikes in the last few days against rebel positions in the southern Syrian town of Deraa and Quneitra opposite IDF Golan positions. The two cases suggest a gentlemen’s agreement between Russia and Israel to abstain from interfering with each other’s air operations over Syria, so long as there are no direct clashes between the two air forces. This could easily have happened when Russian planes bombed Quneitra. So is Moscow giving Israel enough aerial leeway to strike Iranian, Syria and Hizballah targets so long as there is no interference in Russian operations? That too is unlikely because it would amount to permission for the Israeli air force to operate inside the anti-access/area denial bubble which the Russian air force has imposed over Syria.
3.  Did the Israeli air force use electronic warfare measures to jam the tracking systems installed in Russian spy planes and air defense missile systems in Syria? debkafile’s military sources have this answer: Israel and Russia have been conducting a clandestine electronic contest for 33 years, since the memorable episode in 1982, when the Israeli air force destroyed in a single strike the entire Russian air defense missile system installed in Syria.

Headline: Al-Qaida leader praises stabbing attacks in Israel, offers plan to ‘Liberate Palestine’
Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri released a new audio message yesterday titled “To Unite for the Liberation of Jerusalem,” criticizing Israel’s “attacks against the al-Aksa Mosque” and calling for more attacks against Israel and the West. In the message, Zawahri said that “Muslims around the world have learned about the Jewish attacks on the Blessed al-Aksa Mosque.” He praised the stabbing attacks carried out by Palestinians against “the Jews,” especially those who plotted attacks knowing they would be killed. Yet rather than concentrating on attacks against Israel, the al-Qaida leader offered a more large-scale approach to “liberating Palestine.” “Two things are necessary for the liberation of Palestine,” claimed Zawahri.  “First is striking the West and especially the US on its own soil, and attacking their scattered interests in every place. The supporters of Israel must pay with their blood and economy. This will be their price for supporting Israel’s crimes against Muslims and Islam.” To this effect, Zahwari called for more attacks like September 11th and the bombings in Madrid and in London. The second important thing Zawahri called for in order to “liberate” Palestine is “the founding of an Islamic State in Egypt and the Levant, in order to mobilize the nation for the Liberation of Palestine. This could can only be done through the path of unity. We must reject the conflict and stop the fighting between the Jihadi fighters.”

A militant group affiliated to Islamic State in Egypt claimed responsibility for the downing of a Russian passenger plane that crashed in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula on Saturday, the group said in a statement circulated by supporters on Twitter. Egyptian security sources earlier on Saturday said early investigations suggested the plane crashed due to a technical fault. The claim of responsibility was also carried by the Aamaq website which acts as a semi official news agency for Islamic State.

Headline: For the first time ever, Egypt votes for Israel at the UN
Egypt votes in favor of Jewish state’s membership in United Nations space committee – triggering Arab anger. For the first time since Israel’s establishment in 1948, Egypt has voted in the Jewish state’s favor in the United Nations. The vote came during elections for membership in the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) late last week. The vote for Israel triggered angry criticism among Arab social media users, with some even creating a hashtag “Egypt votes for Israel” to criticize the vote. In the face of the backlash Egyptian officials scrambled to clarify that they had only voted for Israel in order to enable the election of several Arab states as well. “Egypt’s commitment to support the candidate of the Arab countries is the main motive behind the vote in favor of the resolution,” Egyptian Foreign Ministetry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid told The Cairo Post Saturday. According to The Post, Egypt and other Arab General Assembly members requested to vote for each of the six states on the list individually. That request was denied amid fierce opposition from the US delegation, and countries had to vote for the list in one go.

Islamic State group jihadists seized a small town in Syria’s central Homs province Sunday with help from local rebels and advanced on a majority Christian village, a monitoring group said. “The Islamic State group easily took control of the village of Maheen, southeast of Homs, after two suicide attacks,” said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. on Sunday the rebel factions turned against the government fighters and joined ranks with IS jihadists, Abdel Rahman said. IS launched its assault from the nearby Christian village of Al-Qaryatain, which it seized in August, he added. From Maheen, the jihadists pushed northeast toward the Christian-majority village of Sadad and the nearby highway running south from Homs to the Syrian capital. A military source said clashes broke out between regime forces and jihadists around Sadad and lasted two hours before subsiding as the Syrian troops pulled out of the village.

Syria Headline:    Joint Kurd-Arab force in Syria announces U.S.-backed offensive in al-Hasakah
A joint rebel force in Syria consisting of Sunni Arabs, Assyrians and Kurds announced it was launching an offensive to liberate portions of the country’s northeastern al-Hasakah province from Islamic State militants. The Syrian Democratic Forces announced its formation last month, asserting the need for the “establishment of a unified national military force to all Syrians consisting of Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and all others living in the geographical locations of Syria.” The group has U.S. backing and comprises a series of units under the Syrian Arab Coalition, The Syriac Military Council and Kurdish forces known as the People’s Defense Units, or YPG, and the Women’s Defense Units, or YPJ. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Saturday quoted the SDF as announcing the “start of a campaign to liberate the southern countryside of al-Hasakah with the participation of all factions of Syrian Democratic Forces and the support of US-led coalition warplanes.” The group said it would not stop until the entire province was cleared of IS forces, and it referred to the offensive as “the first step of our military action within a plan of liberating the whole [of] Syria from the terrorist gangs.”

Syria Headline:    Activists say suspected Russian jets hit Syria’s Palmyra
Suspected Russian warplanes bombed the outskirts of Islamic State-held Palmyra on Monday, sending smoke rising out of an area that includes a historic castle overlooking the Syrian city’s Roman ruins, activists said. An activist in Palmyra who goes by the name Nasser al-Thaer said at least eight airstrikes struck the area of the Islamic-era castle, sending smoke and clouds of dust rising from the hill where the castle is located. An earlier round of airstrikes on Sunday hit behind the castle, al-Thaer told The Associated Press in a series of telephone messages. He said it was difficult to assess damage because of the ongoing airstrikes. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 10 suspected Russian airstrikes targeted the castle area in Palmyra, causing damage. The group, which relies on a network of activists inside Syria, did not provide further details. Activists also reported suspected Russian airstrikes on a nearby town, Qaryatain, which was seized by IS fighters in August. The Observatory said at least 10 people were killed in the central town. The Local Coordination Committees, another monitoring group, said at least 15 civilians were killed after the airstrikes hit a bread distribution center. There was no immediate comment from Russian officials. In comments to the Syrian state news agency SANA, a military official said the Russian Air Force, in cooperation with the Syrian Air Force, carried out 131 sorties which resulted in destroying 237 terrorist targets during the past 48 hours, including “destroying fortified bases, shelters, and a heavy machinegun sites used by (IS) in the surroundings of Palmyra.”

Iraq Headline:  Islamic State battles Iraqi forces near Samarra
The Islamic State and Iraqi Shiite militias have engaged in heavy fighting near the historic city of Samarra in central Iraq. Islamic State jihadists gained control of some areas west of Samarra after Iraqi forces withdrew, claimed a Shiite militia loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al Sadr. The Islamic State’s provinces, or wilayats, of Salahadin and Shamal Baghdad [North Baghdad] have put out large photo releases detailing the fighting for several Iraqi positions west of Samarra. The images show the jihadist forces attacking the positions with heavy machine guns, rockets, mortars, rocket-propelled grenades (RPG’s), technicals (heavily armed pick up trucks), and small arms. The Islamic State also displays several checkpoints being overrun, with the jihadist group removing Iraqi and Shiite flags from the compounds. Several photos show the dead bodies of dozens of Iraqi policemen and Shia militiamen. Many of these are too graphic to be published by The Long War Journal. Additional images highlight the “spoils” gained by the jihadist group, including small arms, RPGs, ammunition, and several vehicles. TheIslamic State also showcased its usage of several foreign suicide bombers, including jihadists from Tajikistan, Tunisia, Egypt, and Bahrain. The fighting in Samarra has been confirmed by Iraqi officials to have been concentrated west of the city. An Iraqi official from Salahadin said that “Daesh [a derogatory Arabic acronym for the Islamic State] was able to sneak into those areas.” Additionally, the official called on the Iraqi Security Forces to send reinforcements to the government’s elements in the area. The suicide bombings west of the city are said to have happened on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29, however, fighting is ongoing.

Kurdish Headline:  As Kurds advance against ISIS, Turkey intensifies ‘provocative attacks’ on Kurdish headquarters north Syria
Since the withdrawal of the Syrian regime’s forces from major parts of the Kurdish areas in July 2012, Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) have seized territories in northern Syrian to fill in the security vacuum.  Kurds have established three autonomous “cantons” in northern Syria since the civil war broke out in 2011- Tel Abyad (Gire Spi), connecting the YPG-held canton of al-Jazeera (Hasakah) with Kobane and the third Kurdish area of Afrin.. They deny aiming to establish their own “nation state”. On Sunday, the Turkish military targeted locations of the YPG in the western countryside of Tel Abyad, coinciding with the outbreak of clashes between the Kurdish YPG fighters and ISIS jihadists in the southern countryside of Sirrin town near Kobane. The YPG’s Media Centre released Monday a statement, of which ARA News received a copy, saying: “The Turkish attacks against our units which started on October 24 are still ongoing on the borderline of Kobane canton.” “The Turkish army renewed Monday afternoon heavy attacks on the YPG-held western countryside of Tel Abyad with A4 weapons,” the YPG’s leadership said. “On Sunday, the Turkish army targeted a YPG base west of Tel Abyad, using heavy weapons type A4, from 18:30 to 02:00 O’clock,” the YPG’s statement read, without giving further information. “It seems that the Turkish state is trying to provoke our units (YPG) to respond in a bid to justify its military intervention in our region,” a YPG official told ARA News in Tel Abyad. “The Turkish authorities are highly concerned about our continuous progress against ISIS terrorists, and they are trying to stop us under the pretext that we are merely fighting for the establishment of an autonomous Kurdish state on their border.”

Headline:Violence erupts in Kurdish areas following AKP electoral victory in Turkey
Turkey’s president says the world must respect the results of the election, which saw the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) regain its parliamentary majority. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said voters had chosen stability following unrest. With almost all ballots counted, state-run Anadolu news agency said the AKP had won 49.4% of the vote, with the main opposition CHP on 25.4%. European observers have criticised the government for stifling media freedom. The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said violence, especially in the country’s south-east, had also had a significant impact on the election. Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) went further and denounced the entire process as “unfair”. President Erdogan hailed the result early on Monday, saying: “The national will manifested itself on 1 November in favour of stability.” But he also attacked media criticism of him and called for global recognition of the election result. “Now a party with some 50% [of the vote] in Turkey has attained power… This should be respected by the whole world, but I have not seen such maturity.” Mr Erdogan called the second general election this year after his AKP lost its parliamentary majority for the first time in 13 years in June and attempts to form a coalition failed.

Headline: Iran says may quit Syria talks, in worsening spat with Saudi rival
Iran said on Monday it would quit Syria peace talks if it found them unconstructive, citing the “negative role” of Saudi Arabia, in the latest twist in a spat between the regional rivals that bodes ill for efforts to ease turmoil across the Middle East. Increasingly bad-tempered exchanges between the conservative Sunni-ruled kingdom and the revolutionary Shi’ite theocracy have dampened hopes of improved ties after the adversaries sat down for their first meeting to discuss the Syria war last week. “In the first round of talks, some countries, especially Saudi Arabia, played a negative and unconstructive role … Iran will not participate if the talks are not fruitful,” ISNA cited deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian as saying. Delivering unusually personal criticism, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani appeared to reprimand Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, who, on Saturday, lashed out at Tehran for what he termed its interference in regional countries. “An inexperienced young man in a regional country will not reach anywhere by rudeness in front of elders,” Rouhani was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA on Monday. He did not name the ‘young man’ but Jubeir was assumed to be his target.

Headline:   Libya warns it could flood Europe with migrants if EU does not recognise new Islamist government
Libya has issued a veiled threat to send “hundreds of thousands” of extra migrants to Europe if Brussels does not give official recognition to its self-declared Islamist government. Officials say they could hire boats to send large numbers of African migrants across the Mediterranean, massively adding to the numbers already reaching Europe’s borders. The warning was made by a spokesman for Libya’s General National Congress in an interview with The Telegraph in the Libyan capital, Tripoli. The Congress took control of Tripoli last year after fighting against forces loyal to the internationally- recognised House of Representatives government, and is not recognised by the European Union as Libya’s legitimate government. A fortnight ago, both factions also rejected the terms of a United Nations-brokered peace deal.Jamal Zubia, the Congress’s foreign media spokesman, told The Telegraph that Libya was currently spending tens of millions of pounds a year stopping migrants from crossing the Mediterranean, through the use of detention centres and repatriation programs. He said that if Europe continued to refuse to recognise the Congress’s authority, the Libyan government could reverse the policy. “To be honest, I have advised my goverment many times already that we should hire boats and send them to Europe,” he said. “We are protecting the gates of Europe, yet Europe does not recognise us and does not want to recognise us. So why should we stop the migrants here?”

Headline: Al Qaeda leader calls for unity against Russia in new recording
Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri called on Islamic militants to band together to combat the West and Russia on battlegrounds in Syria and Iraq, in a new recording released Sunday. It appears to be his latest attempt to avoid being sidelined by ISIS, a US intelligence official tells Fox News. The new recording stands out because it makes current references to Russian intervention in Syria. Previous tapes from Zawahiri were recorded months in advance before being released. Fox News is told Zawahiri is seeking to capitalize off Russia’s intervention, given Al Qaeda’s historical roots fighting the Soviets. “The Americans, Russians, Iranians, Alawites, and Hezbollah are coordinating their war against us — are we not capable of stopping the fighting amongst ourselves so we can direct all our efforts against them?” Zawahiri said in the video, according to Reuters. The intelligence community is analyzing the recording, and it is not clear when the video was created. However, references to Russian aggression suggest the tape was recorded after Moscow launched its airstrike campaign in Syria on Sept. 30.

More than 218,000 refugees and other migrants crossed the Mediterranean in October — a record monthly tally this year and more than in the whole of last year, the UN refugee agency said Monday. The massive influx despite cooling weather and choppy waters highlights the strains that European policymakers and authorities have been under with the unprecedented flood of people fleeing countries including Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan through Turkey to Greece this year. The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that more than 600,000 people have now crossed the Mediterranean this year. UNHCR said 210,265 people crossed the sea from Turkey to Greece last month, a further 8,129 went from north Africa to Italy in the period to October 29. The agency estimates about 216,000 people crossed the Mediterranean last year, while some 3,000 crossed Turkey’s land border.

Headline: Al-Shabab attack kills 15 in Mogadishu hotel
Al-Shabab Islamist militants have attacked a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, killing at least 15 people. Gunmen used two car bombs to blast their way into the Sahafi hotel compound before storming the building, police said. Victims included at least one MP and the general who led the 2011 offensive that drove al-Shabab out of Mogadishu. African Union troops and government forces say they have regained control of the hotel after a fierce gun battle. The hotel is popular with Somalia’s members of parliament. A website associated with al-Shabab said it was responsible for the attack, which it said was carried out early in the morning to avoid civilian casualties. This is a clear change in strategy, says BBC World Service Africa editor Mary Harper. Until now, attacks in Mogadishu have been carried out during the day and evening, killing civilians who happen to be in the targeted area. The owner of the hotel and Gen Abdikarim Dhagabadan, who commanded the operation against al-Shabab in 2011, were among the victims. The attack comes a day after deadly clashes between jihadist fighters and African Union (AU) troops in the Bakool region near the border with Ethiopia.

Headline: Violence hits Central African Republic ahead of pope’s visit
Armed men in the capital of Central African Republic slit a man’s throat and set fire to scores of homes, in a cycle of violence that could further delay elections and prevent a visit this month by Pope Francis. Witnesses said hundreds of people fled their homes in Bangui on Monday after the weekend attack by men from the mainly Muslim PK-5 neighborhood in which more than a dozen people were also shot and wounded. It was not immediately clear who the targets and attackers were, but the violence is part of a pattern in which at least 90 people have been killed since late September – after a Muslim man was found killed. President Catherine Samba-Panza said U.N. peacekeepers had failed to halt the violence and called on the United Nations and the International Criminal Court to sanction political leaders behind the unrest. “Additional efforts must be made to boost the interventions of the international forces and negotiate the placement of advance bases in the neighborhoods to ensure security at a local level,” she said in a national address. She exhorted the peacekeepers to take vigorous action so that “Bangui can be secured for the coming events that are crucial for the country. The pope’s visit and the elections should be unifying events for the people of Central Africa.”

Police shot at ethnic protesters who attacked a police station with gasoline bomb and stones on Nepal’s southern border, killing an Indian man who was among the attackers, Nepalese officials said. Police official Raju Bahadur Shrestha said six officers at the police station were injured. “One of our officers was almost burnt to death, we managed to rescue him,” Shrestha said. Shrestha said the man killed was an Indian involved in the attack, identified as Ashish Kumar Ram. Earlier, Indian police official Rakesh Kumar had said the man was on his way to the Nepalese town of Birgunj. The attack happened about 300 meters (980 feet) inside Nepalese territory. People from Nepal and India are not required to have documents or visas to cross the border. Earlier Monday, Nepalese police were able to clear protesters from the border point, allowing more than 200 trucks and vehicles to cross over to India. However, hundreds of protesters were back at the bridge and completely blocked the border. Police official Hobindra Bogati said five protesters were detained when police removed them and the tents they had pitched in the no man’s land between the two countries. He said that 205 trucks and other vehicles had crossed from Birgunj to Raxaul, India. However, trucks bringing fuel and other goods to Nepal were still blocked by Indian customs officials.

Headline: $20 trillion man: National debt nearly doubles during Obama presidency
When President Obama signs into law the new two-year budget deal Monday, his action will bring into sharper focus a part of his legacy that he doesn’t like to talk about: He is the $20 trillion man. Mr. Obama’s spending agreement with Congress will suspend the nation’s debt limit and allow the Treasury to borrow another $1.5 trillion or so by the end of his presidency in 2017. Added to the current total national debt of more than $18.15 trillion, the red ink will likely be crowding the $20 trillion mark right around the time Mr. Obama leaves the White House. When Mr. Obama took over in January 2009, the total national debt stood at $10.6 trillion. That means the debt will have very nearly doubled during his eight years in office, and there is much more debt ahead with the abandonment of “sequestration” spending caps enacted in 2011.

The number of unemployed persons in Austria crossed the 400,000 mark in October, increasing 0.6 percent to reach 8.7 percent or 410,854 people without work, the ministry of social affairs revealed in new figures on Monday. The total marks a 5.6-percent increase in the unemployment rate over October 2014, but still keeps Austria at the fifth-lowest unemployment rate within the European Union. By the Eurostat calculation method, the rate comes in at 5.7 percent. In line with an ongoing trend, foreigners were heavily impacted by the unemployment increase with 94,334 registered as being unemployed in October, an increase of 12,090 year-on-year. As well, for people aged 50 and over, unemployment increased 11,558 to 91,320 in total. The average length of time needed for unemployed persons to find work again also increased to 126 days, 19 days longer than was recorded in October 2014, while the number of long-term unemployed, persons who have been out of work for 12 months or longer, increased 29.8 percent.

Headline: 100,000 Christians fled ISIL onslaught on Mosul in one night
Given an ultimatum to convert to Islamic State of Iraq and Levant’s (ISIL’s) brutal brand of Islam or be executed, 100,000 Christians left their homes and belongings behind and fled the Iraqi city of Mosul in just one night. Father Douglas Bazi recounted how the Christians were desperate to escape ISIL’s “genocidal” campaign of ethnic cleansing. “Overnight 100,000 people escaped from Mosul and escaped from ISIL. When they arrived and took over Mosul they told the people we have three conditions according to Sharia,” Bazi told Express.co.uk. “Number one was convert. “The second was to pay Jizya (Islamic taxes) and they asked for each person to pay 4,000 to 8,000 US dollars. “Third, they said you have to leave or you will be beheaded.” Bazi also described how ISIL’s jihadists routinely torture anyone who speaks out against them and regularly use girl sex slaves to pay for basic services including medical care. ISIL forced anyone who remained in Mosul to pay an Islamist tax that amount to more than the yearly salary of the average Iraqi. Those who could not afford the tax were executed. “Before 2003 we were two million Christians in Iraq. Now we are maybe 180,000,” Bazi said. “At least 1,800 Christians have been killed since 2003 in Iraq. That’s why the people are afraid.”

Headline: Massive crack opens up in Wyoming mountain
A massive crack the size of seven football fields has formed in the foothills of a mountain range in northern Wyoming. The gaping gash in the Bighorn Mountains has been wowing locals for weeks as it continues to grow to over 750-yards long and about 50-yards wide, according to a hunting outfitter group. “This giant crack in the earth appeared in the last two weeks on a ranch we hunt in the Bighorn Mountains. It’s a really incredible sight,” SNS Outfitter & Guides wrote on Facebook. The group first stumbled across it in early October, but they believe the crack has been developing since late September. “All of a sudden it was just there,” SNS member Sy Gilliland told 9 News. “I think the reason it’s so fascinating is it’s so big. And it doesn’t make any sense. It’s just like the ground opened up.” The hunting organization called in an expert engineer to examine the geological phenomenon after the photo piqued many interests and prompted a barrage of questions. It said the crack was caused by a wet spring that “lubricated” across a cap rock.

Headline:    4.1-magnitude Arizona earthquake shakes metro Phoenix
A string of earthquakes north of Phoenix gave the Valley a rare jolt Sunday night, and the largest – a magnitude 4.1 just before 11:30 p.m. – rattled homes across the region. The series of at least three Arizona earthquakes generated no reports of notable damage, but left people swaying or stunned from Black Canyon City, closest to the epicenter, to Camp Verde and across metro Phoenix as far as Queen Creek. Michael Conway of the Arizona Geological Survey said Monday morning that scientists had not identified the causative fault line yet. Because the earthquake was small and did not rupture the ground, it will be hard to identify where it originated, Conway said. He also said there will be aftershocks over the next few days, many of them too small to feel.

Headline: Powerful cyclone kills three on Yemeni island, heads for Qaeda-run city
A rare tropical cyclone has hit the remote Yemeni island of Socotra, killing at least one person before heading towards the Yemeni mainland. Many residents took shelter in schools and caves as the storm, named Chapala, brought hurricane-force winds, heavy rain and powerful waves to the island. Photos and videos posted online showed water flowing through the streets of the provincial capital, Hadibu. It is believed to be the most powerful storm that Yemen has seen in decades. The UN’s World Meteorological Organisation described the cyclone as “extremely severe”, and said that sea conditions around the centre of the storm were “phenomenal”. At 12:00 GMT on Monday, the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Centre (JTWC)reported that Chapala was generating gusts of up to 240km/h (150mph), equivalent to a category 4 hurricane. The storm is forecast to make landfall just west of the city of Mukalla, on the south coast of the Yemeni mainland, between 00:00 GMT and 12:00 GMT on Tuesday, when gusts of up to 140 km/h (85mph) are expected.

Terrifying footage has captured the moment hailstones the size of golf balls rained down on Saudi Arabia, causing deadly ice flash floods . Extreme weather conditions have been battering the country since October 28 as meteorologists predicted eight years of rain in just two days over the Arabian Sea . In the clip, huge chunks of ice are seen falling from the sky before a river of hail washes through a valley at terrifying speed. As of October 30, 19 people across the region have been killed. In Saudi Arabia, the floods have claimed six lives.
