At Thursday's National Day of Prayer observance on Capitol Hill, Bishop Harry Jackson noted that the executive branch under President Barack Obama has refused to enforce the federal Defense of Marriage Act. "Recently I've been concerned about the enforcement of certain laws," said Jackson. "The executive branch is supposed to enforce the laws of the land ... amen?"
Jackson, a local pastor and national evangelical leader, led an unsuccessful effort to block legalization of same-gender "marriage" in Washington.
Shirley Dobson, who chairs the National Day of Prayer Task Force, noted that the White House neglected to send anyone to the observance, where representatives of the other branches of government led prayers for lawmakers, judges, and the armed forces. "Sadly to say, we did not receive a representative from the White House to stand in the gap to pray for the president," she observed.
