The relationship between the American mainstream media and the Monsanto Company can only be described as ‘cozy, this is due to the Biotech giant being an American-based company that has heavy influence on Capitol Hill from its lobbying efforts.
However, the company and its peers among the agrochemical business world are vastly shunned and/or banned overseas because of its infractions against both the environment and our health.
Monsanto also has a fondness for suing farmers, which the media has a lack of acknowledgment for.  But the Biotech giants, described by many as a ‘legal bully’, is going to trial in the international court for Crimes Against Humanity, according to Sustainable Pulse:
“The Organic Consumers Association (OCA), IFOAM International Organics, Navdanya, Regeneration International (RI), and Millions Against Monsanto, joined by dozens of global food, farming and environmental justice groups announced today that they will put Monsanto MON (NYSE), a U.S.-based transnational corporation, on trial for crimes against nature and humanity, and ecocide, in The Hague, Netherlands, next year on World Food Day, October 16, 2016.”
This report came a short time after the announcement by the Monsanto Tribunal, a conglomerate of organizations, that includes those mentioned above, who announced their intentions in a PDF report that took part of the COP21 United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
“The time is long overdue for a global citizens’ tribunal to put Monsanto on trial for crimes against humanity and the environment. We are in Paris this month to address the most serious threat that humans have ever faced in our 100-200,000 year evolution—global warming and climate disruption,” said Ronnie Cummins, president of the Organic Consumers Association. “Why is there so much carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere and not enough carbon organic matter in the soil? Corporate agribusiness, industrial forestry, the garbage and sewage industry and agricultural biotechnology have literally killed the climate-stabilizing, carbon-sink capacity of the Earth’s living soil.”
This announcement says that Monsanto’s crimes against the environment will be evaluated at the international court in the Netherlands.
The Monsanto Tribunal will be held in The Hague from Oct. 12-16, 2016, and aims to judge these allegations against Monsanto, and assess the damages the they caused.  The Tribunal will place reliance on the “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights” that was adopted by the UN in 2011.  It will also evaluate possible criminal liability on the basis of the Rome Statute that generated the International Criminal Courts in The Hague in 2002.  It will also consider if a reform of international criminal law needs to include ecocide, or crimes against the environment, as a prosecutable criminal offense.
This is great news for the world as Monsanto is finally going to be held accountable for its crimes against humanity.  Our voices have finally been heard and the Biotech industry may say its downfall at the hands of the Monsanto Tribunal.
