The plan to put Bible, prayer back into schools

“How is it possible that violent crime in the United States has surged by more than 460 percent since 1960?” – Joel Rosenberg
In 1963 the disrespectful-of-religion Supreme Court removed the Bible from public schools – by an 8-1 majority vote. “It led not to true neutrality with respect to religion, but to the establishment of a religion of secularism.” – Justice Potter Stewart, the lone dissenter.
You see this, right? The “adversary” of a Christian nation disconnected the tie-in to God from public education – and America’s children – in 1963.
The adversary sheathed the Sword.
Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer – hung naked by a piano wire as one of the last dictates of Adolf Hitler – wrote, “If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction.”
America has boarded the wrong, secular train. Now we’ve lost our Judeo-Christian heritage and its byproduct – a Christian culture.
America was a Christian nation. The Mayflower Compact declared, “In the name of God, Amen. We whose names are underwritten, having undertaken – for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith …”
Let’s decide if America is a Christian nation or a pagan nation – and get on with it; the sooner the better.
My intent is to put God, prayer and the Bible back into public schools as a principal component of education. Some experts say it would take 1) a constitutional amendment; others say 2) a simple 50 percent plus 1 vote in the House and Senate (U.S. Constitution, Article III, Section 2).
Pick your poison – either approach is fine with me.
Can you picture what America would look like following a decade-long war – a knock-down drag-out – to return God, prayer and the Bible to the public schools? To regain our Christian heritage and re-establish a Christian culture?
Proverbs 1:7: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
In God’s economy, the key component of knowledge is “The fear of the LORD.”
We begin mobilization by attempting to engage the 10,000 American Renewal Project pastors and wives who have participated in our pastors and pews events since 2005.
If God allows, we intend to launch, in the 2013-2014 political cycle, the American Renewal Project, to engage the church in a culture war for religious liberty, to restore America to our Judeo-Christian heritage and to re-establish a Christian culture.
The message to our federal representatives and senators? Vote to restore the Bible and prayer in public schools or be sent home. Hanging political scalps on the wall is the only love language politicians can hear.
One of these days some nobody – yet conversant and skilled in the Word – will call for religious liberty by reintroducing the Bible, Jesus, the Ten Commandments and honoring God at commencements in the public schools of America; then we will watch Providence call for “punishment executed by angels” to those who oppose His Word.
Proverbs 17:11: “An evil person fosters only rebellion, but a cruel messenger is sent against him.”
Dr. Michael V. Fox, in his commentary on Proverbs, writes: “The ‘messenger’ sent against the rebel may be human or angelic. LXX has the latter. Some would have it both ways. Sa’adia says that if a man rebels against the king, a human messenger is sent to punish him. (Kings send messengers to arrest or kill men considered seditious in 1 Samuel 19:14-15 and 2 Kings 6:32). If he rebels against God’s word, punitive angels are dispatched (Psalm 78:49; Ezekiel 9:2; etc.) It is possible that the punishment is executed by angels, because God himself, as this socially conservative book sees it, defends the political order, if it is just. Some connect this verse with the preceding: An intelligent man gets off with a rebuke; a fool gets beaten; but the rebel is put to death.”
Instead of allowing the liberals to “frame the debate” around gun control – exploiting the horrific tragedy in Connecticut – the American Renewal Project intends to make the fight over religious liberty, reclaiming America’s Christian heritage. The battle for religious liberty includes restoring the Bible and prayer to public schools.
“Until American churches actually function as outposts of Jesus’ heavenly empire rather than as cheerleaders for America – until the churches produce martyrs rather than patriots – the political witness of Christians will continue to be diluted and co-opted.” ["Between Babel and the Beast," Peter J. Leithart]
Will a Gideon or Rahab the Harlot please stand?

David Lane energizes evangelical pastors nationwide – educating them to mobilize their congregations to vote their faith through the American Renewal Project. Ten thousand pastors, plus spouses, have participated in the Pastors’ Policy Briefings in 15 states.
