It just might be the October Surprise that everybody always talks about in the weeks leading up to Election Day. If so, it is self-inflicted. It is the secret that exposed the media as the propaganda arm of Team Obama for all to see.
The administration openly lied about Benghazi. Over and over again. Lies so transparent a child could see through them. But the mainstream media pretended to believe. Why would they do that?
The answer is as simple as it is sad. For the last four years, they have been openly complicit in the "fundamental transformation" of America despite being completely clueless about what America was being transformed into.
They fell in love with the Obama Story early on and touted it as if it were the Gospel. When certain elements of the story began to crumble, they rushed in to help shore up the cracks in the edifice.
Rather than questioning why Team Obama spent so much time, money and effort covering up his background, the media went after the questioners, supplying Team Obama with an alternative pejorative they could use to silence their critics besides "racist."
Obama's Ministry of Propaganda came up with the "birther" label and then turned it over to the media to ensure proper saturation. Within weeks, labeling someone a "birther" was as effective at silencing them as labeling someone a "racist" was -- and it even worked against minorities.
Now it appears that some of them are starting to realize what they have done to their own country. But they have invested so much of their credibility in propagating the Obama Story that they are now trapped inside a myth of their own making.
I hate the name, "mainstream media" because it cuts such a broad swath. When I do use it, I mean the Old Media -- the media that used to have a monopoly on everything Americans saw and heard; ABC, CBC, NBC, MSNBC, PBS and almost all of the big city newspapers around the country. The following assessment is nine years old:
Viacom owns CBS, UPN, MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime,Sundance Channel, VH-1, King World Productions, Infinity Broadcasting and Comedy Central. Viacom's holdings also include Blockbuster Video, the world's largest video rental chain, and Blockbuster Music; book publishing, including Simon & Schuster, Scribners and Macmillan; film, video and television production, including Paramount Pictures; a 50 percent interest in United Cinemas International, one of the world's largest movie theater companies.
In 1950, 1,300 American newspapers -- almost all of them -- were independently and locally owned. Today, that number is fewer than 300.
Two years later, we revisited and updated . . .
"NBC, whose 29 stations reach about 34% of the national audience, belongs to General Electric. ABC belongs to the Disney Corporation. Fox News belongs to NewsCorp, an Australian news conglomerate. The fourth largest stockholder in NewsCorp is Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Tatal.
The Saudi government is also CNN International's biggest and most lucrative advertising client. CNN's current and largest advertisers include Orascom Telecom, Qatar Airways, Lebanon Tourism, Emirates Airlines, Kuwait Fund, OPEC, Qatar Foundation and Saudi Airlines.
And CNN's anti-Israel bias is so pronounced that the Israelis threatened to pull the plug on CNN in Israel as a 'disseminator of anti-Israeli propaganda.
There is no such thing as an 'American' media -- just international corporations with international corporate interests. Interests that include Saudi oil money, the ability to expand in international markets, and creating a favorable political climate for their activities and agendas back in the States."
It is an open secret that some 90% of the mainstream media votes Democrat, endorses Far Left causes like gay marriage, abortion rights, income redistribution and the globalist agenda. Or anything else that causes conflict, since conflict is the Left's only lever of governing power.
Just look at the Left's powerbase. Angry unions. Angry racial minorities. Angry feminists. Look at their platform. The rich are raping the middle class. The rich don't pay their fair share. The rich are mostly middle-aged white men who want to keep minorities down. The rich are thieves. The rich are liars.
Only liberals care about the poor and downtrodden. Recall liberal Democrat Alan Grayson's deplorable floorshow at the House where he summarized the Republican view of health care: "Republicans want you to die quickly."
Listen to the language of liberal politicians like Joe Biden. Everything is about "fight, fight fight" -- "fighting for your rights"; "fighting for your jobs"; fighting against whom?
When the Left talks about "fighting" they are talking about fighting other Americans.
Notice when the Left attacks the Right. They don't attack their politics. They don't attack theirrecord. They attack their people.
Nobody on the Left took on the politics of the Tea Party. The press couldn't find anything about the Tea Party's proposals that they could hang their attacks on.
So they invented this narrative about the Tea Party members that they are all white, homophobic, Islamophobic, racist bigots whose only objection is that the president is black.
When the facts proved that the Tea Party is as racially diverse as the rest of the population, the Left attacked black Tea Party members personally as "Oreos" or "Uncle Toms".
The attacks were not along political lines. They were along racial lines. Because conflict is theonly lever of Marxist political power. It is what they were taught at journalism school by their Marxist professors -- how to exploit politics of conflict.
On the other hand, one of the main criticisms leveled at Team Romney by GOP partisans is that Romney keeps saying "the President is a nice guy, but. . . " before Romney launches an attack on Obama's policies.
For more than four years, because the mainstream media shares the same Marxist globalist agenda as does the President, the media has turned a blind eye to the damage that agenda has caused to the nation's image abroad, the economy at home and to the war on terror in general.
But the Benghazi attack and the subsequent cover-up was too open. Too blatant. It left the media with nothing to hide behind, forcing it to do its Constitutional duty and report the truth.
They hadn't done it in so long that for some of the younger journalists, it was the first time.
And they apparently liked it.
For four years, the media has helped Team Obama maintain the fiction that it was George Bush that the world hated, and not America.
The mainstream media helped advance that fiction by going along with the administration's claim that Major Nidal Hasan's attack on US soldiers at Fort Hood was a case of 'workplace violence' rather than terror.
The mainstream media suppressed any information that would suggest terrorism as a motive. The Obama administration has painted Obama as the "fierce warrior that killed Osama bin Laden and decimated al-Qaeda."
It is hard to maintain that fiction if al-Qaeda has been attacking us all along. So instead, every terror attack or terror attack attempt is either presented as a "lone wolf" terrorist or is otherwise unconnected with terrorism.
At Fort Hood, Major Hasan gunned down his comrades while screaming, "Allahu Akbar!", which is apparently Arabic for "I love America".
According to TIME magazine, the guys that made "The Movie" are Islamophobic, but the rioters who killed dozens are simply "orthodox Muslims upset by Western insults to "The Prophet Mohahmmed."
When was the last time you read a straight news report that references Jesus as "the Lord Jesus Christ"? Liberals would find it unethical to even appear to endorse Christianity, but have no quarrel with embracing the Islamic shahada.
But the Benghazi Affair may turn out to be this Election Year's October Surprise. Suddenly, some younger members of the mainstream media have begun to break ranks and started to tell the truth. CBS reporter Lara Logan broke ranks with the mainstream to admit the administration is "propagating a major lie" about Benghazi.
You have to leave the country to read it, but it still represents a sea change in mainstream attitudes. As more than one commentator has observed, last week's debate "pulled back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz".
"For five years now, the "mainstream media," loosely translated as "everybody but Fox News," has gone out of its way to protect this president, to tell the American people that this man is an intellectual giant. His eloquence knows no match, his positions on justice and equality have no moral equal. He was even awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (but for what we do not know). His efforts to sharply raise taxes on "the rich" is a just cause, and the impact of his actions are not to be judged. His Obamacare (he likes the name!) remains to this day unchecked in any detail by the media. To paraphrase former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, we'll have to wait for the new taxes and fines to kick in before the media tells us what's really in the bill. Only President Obama's soaring intentions are to be evaluated; never his dreary outcomes.
Then came the debate. . . Now, his cheerleaders are embarrassed. For years, sycophants like Matthews, Maddow and O'Donnell put protecting this president ahead of informing the American people. This is what they get for thanks? A bored, lazy candidate slapped around by a Richie Rich Republican? Is it possible?"
The debates destroyed $150 million worth of advertising painting Romney as an out-of-touch ogre. And the truth destroyed Team Obama's effort to paint Mitt Romney as a liar before it even got a chance to take off.
The jury is still out on whether or not the media will jump on the "Big Bird" controversy instead of facing up to its complicit role in the Benghazi Affair.
So, will the mainstream turn on Obama? He lied to them, too. And they aren't happy about it. There are twenty-six more days to find out.
Wouldn't that be an October Surprise!
