Collateral Damage: How Obama’s War On Coal Hurts All Americans

Rep. Fred “Lightbulb” Upton, and Sen. Jim Inhofe have an article in the Obama Campaign House Organ otherwise known as Politico. They’re talking about the Obama administration’s War on Coal and some legislation they’re pushing to stop it.
I think it’s an important piece of legislation, but it barely scratches the surface of what’s needed to restore American competitiveness and American jobs.
H.L. Mencken said, “No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.” Barack Obama, I’m sure has that tattooed on his soul.
Americans were so busy listening to the “Hope & Change” lies, they didn’t pay any attention to Senator Obama when he was telling the truth.
- “The cost of electricity needs to skyrocket.”
- “We’re going to bankrupt the coal industry.”
Not only is unemployment above 8%, the ONLY reason it’s not above 11% is because American workers have been leaving the workforce in record numbers because Obama’s War on America has shut down the economy to the point where businesses are afraid to expand or they’re just struggling to keep up with the cost of our new regulatory economy. If the workforce was the same size it was on the day Obama took office the unemployment rate would be 11.2%. Hell of a job Mr. President.
Here’s the result of President Obama’s “Jobs Program”, from Politico.
Alpha Natural Resources Tuesday announced it will be scaling back its coal production, eliminating 1,200 jobs and closing eight mines in Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Alpha’s chief executive officer, Kevin Crutchfield, lamented “a regulatory environment that’s aggressively aimed at constraining the use of coal.”Not only has this administration been at war with the coal industry, in fact they’ve been waging war on the entire fossil fuel industry. They like to tout the fact that oil and gas production in the U.S. is at an all time high. What they neglect to tell you is that the credit for that production goes to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. They worked with the industry to increase development on private lands. That’s where the production is coming from. Exploration on public lands and offshore has ground to a halt thanks to Obama’s EPA and Energy Czar.
You can expect your electricity bills to be headed way up. It just so happens that the EPA is targeting not just coal mines, they’re also going after coal fired electric generation plants.
More than 200 coal-based electric generation units are due to be shut down, partly due to the EPA’s regulatory assault, accorded to the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity analysis, released this week. The closing of 204 coal units stretches across 25 states and represents 31,000 megawatts of generating capacity. This is the equivalent to turning off the lights across the entire state of Ohio.As the cost of electricity goes up, businesses have fewer dollars to invest in expansion and productivity. Smaller investments mean fewer jobs. Businesses that the Obama administration has driven to the ropes will be driven to the mat. That means no jobs.
This country has never been closer to ending our reliance on Middle Eastern oil. We should be full-on developing the known oil fields in the U.S. and working with our allies in Canada as they develop theirs. About the only real “shovel-ready” project that would have produced real jobs for Americans and helped to reduce our dependence on Islamic butchers was the Keystone Oil Pipeline. The President stopped that one dead in it’s tracks and the Canadians are likely to sell their oil to the Chinese.
How’s THAT for “change?”
We have the opportunity in 47 more days to make a “change” that really will be meaningful.
We can restore America’s competitiveness and our economy, but only by restoring America’s freedom and liberty. The only way to accomplish that is to send Barack Obama and a significant number of elected and appointed Democrats packing.
Your vote can make that happen. Your vote counts. So does your neighbor’s, have you talked to anyone about the most important event in a generation?
THAT is “Change You Can Believe In.”
