Americans will not elect a President with a biblical worldview
It is not hard to figure out why Americans are nominating and electing people like Obama and Romney for President. The evidence indicates that the vast majority of Americans do not have a biblical Christian worldview, so it just stands to reason that Americans would also have little desire to vote a person into the presidential office that has a true biblical worldview.
Some think America is a Christian nation but they are short on the facts. True Christianity is not a culture, it is people who have been born spiritually into the body of Christ. These are nowhere near a majority in America. Christians ought to have biblical worldviews but the evidence shows that even those that claim to be born again Christians mostly do not.
Here are some rough demographics for those that want to understand why Americans will not elect a Christian with a biblical worldview into the office of President:
About 75 percent of Americans now identify themselves as Christians but more than one-third of this 75 percent believes that their works determine their salvation (e.g. Catholicism and some legalistic or liberal Protestant cults). This is in direct opposition to what the Bible teaches. So the few Christians in this group that have a biblical worldview find it apart from the teaching of their denomination or church.
Catholics generally do not have a biblical Christian worldview because few of them know, believe or practice the absolute truths taught in the Bible. Most Catholics do not even have a Catholic worldview. As a former Catholic, with an extended Catholic family, I think I know what I am talking about. In support, the Barna Group survey used six factors to determine a biblical worldview (see quote below). The answers they received from Catholics indicated that only 2 percent held a biblical worldview. Therefore, just counting the non Christians and the Catholics, already one-half of all Americans have a worldview that conflicts with the Bible.
That leaves us then with the 50 percent of Americans that identify with Protestantism. Most of the old mainline liberal churches now confuse humanism with Christianity and many do not believe the Bible is anything more than a guide. Many think Christianity is only one way to God. Absolute biblical truth in liberalism is an oxymoron.
Most in these old traditional denominations are just cultural Christians, they have never been born from above into the spiritual body of Christ. They often like to believe that salvation comes through infant baptism, church sacraments and living a good life. These generally do not have a Christian worldview because they generally do not believe or know the scriptures. The percentage here with Christian worldviews are about the same as Catholics. They are only a couple of percent with a biblical worldview. Most have a humanist worldview not a Christian worldview.
The remaining 25 percent of Christians in America call themselves Evangelical Christians but Evangelical Christians have split on absolute truths found in the Bible. These New Evangelicals usually have a gospel of relativism, pluralism, universalism, mysticism or social justice. Most New Evangelicals do not have biblical worldviews. In addition, those evangelicals in Word of Faith and ilk, with its Gnosticism and Dominion Theology certainly have a distorted Christian worldview.
That only leaves about 10 to 15 percent of Americans, and even all of these do not have biblical worldviews by any stretch of the imagination. Even Bible believing churches have those members that do not know or do not agree with what the Bible teaches .
Therefore, those that believe that the Bible is the unalterable absolute word of God and those that believe they should try to live by the truths therein are only a small minority of the America’s population. I would say they are only about 10 percent of the adults in America. A tithe of all Americans have a biblical worldview.
To verify that figure. I decided to look at the 2009 Barna Group survey about biblical worldviews. The six points they used to determine if Americans had biblical worldviews are listed below.
For the purposes of the survey, a “biblical worldview” was defined as believing that absolute moral truth exists; the Bible is totally accurate in all of the principles it teaches; Satan is considered to be a real being or force, not merely symbolic; a person cannot earn their way into Heaven by trying to be good or do good works; Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today. In the research, anyone who held all of those beliefs was said to have a biblical worldview.
The survey indicates that based on just these six basic biblical absolutes, only 9 percent of American Christians had a biblical worldview and only 19 percent of those identifying themselves as born again Christians had a biblical worldview.
The proof is in the pudding. If Americans do not even know or believe what the Bible teaches, why would they then vote for people who have a biblical worldview for President? Now you know why people like Palin and Bachmann will not get elected to the office of President in this country.
I found it interesting in this survey that almost all Christians claimed they knew what the Bible teaches but only ten percent could actually demonstrate that claim by their lifestyle positions or worldviews. This indicates that most Christians are self-deluded about what they think they know about the scriptures. Some think they know the scriptures because they have church magazine studies about the Bible a half hour a week in what is called a Bible believing church. I know from my own experience in many different evangelical churches that the vast majority that attend churches in America have never read through the Bible even once. Biblically illiterate evangelicals are easily influenced by postmodern worldviews.
Having Christian worldviews does not necessarily determine that one is a Christian, but if Christians do not learn biblical worldviews after a certain period of time, they might examine themselves to see what their claimed Christian faith is based on? Maybe they just believe in a religion that conforms to the thoughts of their own mind with their own designer Jesus and their own designer beliefs? That Jesus would just be their very own counterfeit.
Americans vote for people like Obama and Romney because they believe these people have similar worldviews as themselves. However, when just ten percent of Americans have Christian worldviews, it is very unlikely that a person with real biblical worldviews would be elected President of these United States of America.
In addition to the points in the survey, here are a dozen contemporary beliefs that would indicate that you do not have a biblical worldview:
- Mormons are Christians
- Obama takes biblical positions
- Evolution is true – man evolved and is evolving
- Jesus (Yeshua) is not physically returning to rule on earth
- Jesus is not God
- God is finished with the nation of Israel
- Praying to Mary influences Jesus or Father God
- Having an abortion should be a mother’s choice
- Homosexual practice or marriage can be within God’s will
- Religions without Jesus as the Messiah can lead people to God
- Reincarnation
- The Bible teaches socialism
