Alright, I admit that it was a to think that I could go an entire Friday without doing another post, but President Obama had a presser where he said something too tempting to pass up and that sealed the fate of my “rest of the day off” notion.
Timing is everything in comedy, and President Obama is pretty good at it. Today, on the heels of a , with food stamp use at a , gas still up, EPA regs and the lowest labor force participation rate in , Obama said the private sector is “doing just fine.” I suppose that depends on what your definition of “fine” is.
The quote from by way of :
Question: What about the Republicans saying that you’re blaming the Europeans for the failures of your own policies?
President Obama: The truth of the matter is that, as I said, we created 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months, over 800,000 just this year alone.
The private sector is doing fine. Where we’re seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. Oftentimes cuts initiated by, you know, Governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government and who don’t have the same kind of flexibility as the federal government in dealing with fewer revenues coming in.
So if the federal government would spend more money by giving it to local and state governments to hire more government workers, our economy would be back to full strength? Isn’t that, combined with other idiocies, more of what helped cause the problem in the first place?
Obama is saying that the private sector is successful enough and it’s time to take some of that money and grow government.
The One still hasn’t caught on to the — and that’s not really a bad thing. Or maybe he has caught on, but he’s got nothing else to offer.
Romney :
“He said the private sector is doing fine,” Romney said. “Is he really that out of touch? I think he’s defining what it means to be detached and out of touch with the American people. Has there ever been an American president who is so far from reality as to believe in an America where 23 million Americans are out of work.”
But Obama’s entire point, if we can call it that, is that there wouldn’t be 23 million Americans out of work if the government would simply create 23 million jobsProblem solved! Yes, this administration actually thinks that way:
Harry Reid last October.
Note: This post was brought to you by the official movie of the Democratic Party:
nullUpdate: This is pitifully funny:
But Pres Obama says the private sector is getting better. Cites record corporate profits. Says its not the biggest drag on the economy.
Get that? If the private sector does badly, it’s a drag on the economy. Used to be the private sector pretty much was the economy. But now, according to Obamanomics, if the private sector doesn’t perform it puts a crimp on the government’s ability to flourish.
It’s good to know though that even Obama might be aware that Obama is the biggest drag on the economy.
Update II: Obama also says Ray Bradbury is
That’s satire, right? With this administration it’s impossible to tell the difference sometimes.
Update III: The RNC has some seriously impressive turnaround time these days:
Update IV: Obama: Did I say the private sector was just fine? I mean to say that the economy is .
Notice how Obama carefully carves the “economy” and the “private sector” into two distinctly separate entities.
