Obama Again Shows Contempt for American Law, Oath of Office

Yet again, President Barack Obama has spit on his oath of office and is refusing to carry out the duly enacted laws of the United States–precisely what the executive branch exists to do in America.

From The Hill:

Republicans are criticizing the Obama administration’s new leniency for some illegal immigrants as a politically motivated and possibly illegal effort to win over Hispanic voters.
The Republicans contend the new rules — which will prevent deportations for as many as 800,000 illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children — circumvent the law just to buy Obama support from Hispanics ahead of November’s elections, in which the Hispanic vote will likely be crucial.

Yes, it is clear that once again, this administration is ignoring its duty to enforce the nation’s laws and choosing instead to pander to another segment of its base of malcontents, lawbreakers, the immoral, those who have no regard for the American way, and those who want to reap the benefits of living in America without meeting the responsibilities that come with it.

I understand that the illegal aliens to whom this amnesty move is supposedly limited are young people who supposedly (since there are no records of their entry to the country, how are we to know?) were brought here by their lawbreaking parents.  But there are several important things we must remember.

First, as a matter of principle, we do not reward lawbreaking. When you reward lawbreaking in any way (even by simply ignoring the law), you encourage more lawbreaking. We made the mistake of granting amnesty back in the 1980s on the promise that the border would eventually be brought under control (it obviously never was), and we were rewarded with even more illegal entry into our country. But when Arizona decided a couple of years ago to start doing the job the federal government refuses to do, many illegal aliens self-deported as they saw a will toenforce the law in Arizona.

We also do not allow family members to retain stolen property that may have been given to them by someone else. It is most unfortunate when someone is given something by a third person, only to find out later that the person who gave it to them was not legally entitled to give it to them. Those illegal aliens who came to this country bringing their children with them took something (residency in the United States) that did not belong to them, and that they could not legally pass on to their children. If a family broke into an unoccupied house that didn’t belong to them and began squatting there, we would not allow the children to stay in the house once they were caught. Once identified, all illegal aliens should be deported. Those who willingly broke our laws and violated our national sovereignty should not be allowed back in, period. Those who were brought here as children could be allowed to “get in line” to come back, but they should not be given preference over those who are abiding by U.S. immigration law.

As a matter of principle, we also should not reward those who “cut in line” over those who have waited patiently and played by the rules. There is a long list of people who want to immigrate to the United States. Many of them have been waiting their turn to get permission to enter, and then to begin the process of citizenship. It is an affront to their patience and willingness to abide by our laws to put those who are here illegally ahead of them.

We also know that with liberals, the axiom about giving an inch and taking a mile is the order of the day. Given them just an inch of ground, and they will DEMAND 10 miles on the “logic” that “it’s just ground” and the fact that we gave up an inch of it proves there’s no reason why we shouldn’t give up 10 miles as well. If we allow amnesty for illegal alien children of illegal aliens, that will be the next springboard to “justify” amnesty for all who invade our nation.

The U.S. Constitution does not grant authority to the executive branch to make law or change law; executive orderscan only legitimately clarify details of what the law says, they cannot legally enact law on their own. The law still exists which says those who come to our country must enter through official checkpoints and must conform to visitor and immigration law. What the Obama Administration is doing is clearly illegal and in contravention to existing law.

Either we are a nation of laws, or we are not. If we are not a nation of laws, then the days of our freedom are numbered, and that number will be small.

Rep. Allen West (R-FL), one of the few reliable Republicans in Washington, expressed the current situation quite well:

“We have representative government,” West said in a statement, “and I think right now this shows that we’re getting away from government that’s based upon the consent of the American people, and we’re starting to live under a rule by edict or executive order.”

If we lived in a more virtuous age, an age when people were more concerned with what is right and less concerned with their bread and circuses, Barack Obama would have been impeached for dereliction of duty and contempt for the U.S. Constitution long ago.  This administration has long been ignoring immigration enforcement of illegal aliens they already had in custody. This administration has refused to secure our borders and enforce immigration law for years. This administration has pushed an unconstitutional takeover of the health care industry that violates the freedom of Americans on several levels, including attacking religious liberty and forcing people to buy a product they may not need or want. The president has refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) passed by a congressional majority and signed into law by a Democrat president. President Obama also engaged this nation’s military forces in combat operations in Libya where there is no American interest whatsoever, and ignored legal requirements that involve congress in military actions.

It’s not as if Obama doesn’t understand his duty under the U.S. Constitution. He very clearly does. As CNS Newspoints out,

“America is a nation of laws, which means I, as the president, am obligated to enforce the law. I don’t have a choice about that. That’s part of my job,” Obama said in March 2011 at a town hall event hosted by the Spanish-language television network Univision.
Obama, answering questions from students about deportations of young, school-age illegal immigrants, said that immigration laws were passed by Congress and that only the judiciary could interpret them.
“Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws,” he said.
Obama said executive action to stop deportation would not be “appropriate” for the president to take.
“There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as president.”

Apparently the pressure of crumbling support for his re-election has led him to abandon even any pretense of obeying the law and honoring his oath.  He is clearly in violation of the oath he took, the U.S. Constitution, U.S. law that he clearly acknowledged little more than a year ago.

Since there are very few Republicans or Democrats in Washington who take their own oaths seriously, the best we can hope for is that enough people might hold their nose and vote for a liberal “Republican” in November and remove this Marxist despot from the White House.

How low has the great American republic fallen from the noble men who founded it…
